How to Make a Mosaic

One of the oldest forms of arts and crafts includes mosaic art. If you have never heard of mosaic art, you are in for a real treat. These works of art are created using glass tiles that you either find around your home or buy in an arts and crafts store. Since mosaics come in many different colors, shapes and sizes, there is no limit to the amount of art you can create using these tiles. Even if this is your very first time working with tiles, you will be amazed at how simple - albeit time consuming - the process is. To get started you will need a few simple supplies: Mosaic tiles - any shape, size and color A strong glass glue - Loctite sells glass glue that works wonders in these types of projects A canvas to glue the mosaic artwork to - this can be anything from cardstock to a ceramic board. Once you have your supplies on hand, it is time to get started with the project. Your art project will only take a few simple steps and you will be ready to frame it and hang it on your wall. Sort your tiles by color - if you have a large eclectic mix of tiles, you will want to sort them out by color and possibly size, depending upon what you plan to make. Many people find that it is easier to find the pieces that they are looking for if the tiles are at least separated by color. Lay out your tiles in the pattern that you like - this can take quite a bit of time, especially if you have a detailed pattern in mind. The reason why you should always lay out your pattern first before applying glue is so that you can change it around without the hassle of starting over. Apply your adhesive to your tiles and then apply your tiles to the background of your choice. You want to use an adhesive that is meant to bind glass, otherwise you run the risk of your mosaic falling apart after you have invested all of that time and effort. Hang your artwork up proudly. Many people who get involved in mosaic work find that it can be addictive. Taking a bunch of broken glass tiles and turning them into a piece worthy of being hung on the wall can be a mind blowing experience - one that inspires more creativity. Don't forget - your glass glue is an essential piece of the project.
